Seven Steps to a Secure Computer

Security Gold Lock and ChainThe December 2012 SANS OUCH! Monthly Security Awareness Newsletter for Computer Users has been published. It’s subject is how to secure a computer, new or used, before you use it; and how to avoid Internet and email scams.  It covers the following seven steps:

  1. Starting Secure
  2. Updating Your Computer
  3. Security Software
  4. Accounts and Access
  5. Security On The Go
  6. Using The Computer
  7. Backups

These tips are the globally accepted computer security best practices for securing a computer. And yes, they are the same practices this blog has espoused many times. However, SANS is a highly respected educator and research organization, and these articles are well-written and easily understood. I highly recommend you read it.
