Free Anti-Virus For Android Devices!

SmartphoneMy regular readers know that I’ve been reporting on the threats and exploits malware has posed for Android smartphones and other devices. I said recently that the Android device population has reached such stupendous size that it’s a target for cyber criminal organizations the world over.

Great news! Sophos Security, a big name in the computer security software community has announced a free anti-virus software package for Android devices…I’m thinking this is pretty cool. Sophos Mobile Security, in addition to it’s anti-virus functionality, also scans all apps as they’re installed, blocking those who contain malicious code that can lead to malware attacks. See Android Malware: Is Google Part Of The Problem? and Internet Security: Banking Trojan Attacks Smartphones.

I have no affiliation with Sophos Security and receive no remuneration for this article. I have not used Sophos Mobile Security.

Another function is that it “locates lost or stolen Android devices and provides a remote lock capability to keep personal information from unintended users.”

And it’s free! Waaaay Ta Go Sophos!!!

Here’s the link to Google Play to download the software.
