Do you know how and why your anti-virus software works? It’s important to know because all anti-virus software have limitations, and there are ways to make them effective…and also mistakes, in using them, that make them ineffective.
Regular readers of this blog know that I believe that our greatest defense against cybercriminal activity is in the security practices we employ on our own computers. And that we must educate all who will listen, about how to be secure through the use of best security practices. I also believe that the education of basic, non-technical computer users requires repetitive, plain language explanation of best security practices. I have adopted that style and message in my postings and will continue to do so.
And to that end…plain language best security practices…I have found a great article on how anti-virus software works, how it does and does not protect your computer, tips for using anti-virus software and trusted sources for anti-virus programs; at SANS OUCH! Newsletter. I couldn’t say it better than this article…it’s worth checking out and bookmarking it for future reference.
Remember, it’s dangerous out there…arm yourself through knowledge of the threats and protective safeguards.
