Recently, Kenya received three new undersea fiber optic cables to deliver the Internet to this African nation. Sounds like a great idea, right? Absolutely! The people of Kenya will use the cyber highway to take advantage of this cyber field-leveling tool to increase their GNP and improve their economy by being able to easily do business with the rest of the world.
However, the cyber criminal element has plans for the Kenyan cyber highway too. They see Kenya as virgin territory in which to ply their criminal trade. Not only is this “new” territory; but the government and businesses of Kenya lack any form of Internet security. They’re like lambs being gathered for slaughter to these very sophisticated cyber crime organizations. It’s bad enough that first world countries are being successfully attacked; but those countries are at least able to defend themselves against these attacks. Kenya and other second and third world countries are absolutely and utterly defenseless. I can hardly bear to watch as this onslaught takes place. Does this outrage you too? Let me know how you feel about this issue.
