There have been many postings on this blog and security-related blogs concerning the threat to Internet security and personal security that social networking generates. We all know that the average Facebook or Twitter user places much more personal information on these sites than they should. We’ve warned our readers of the threats posed by this practice: see my post Facebook – Use With Care And Protect Your Privacy; but the situation is becoming more of a problem as time goes on. A recent article in Network World titled Seven ways social nets like Facebook and LinkedIn are ‘truly evil’ points out the latest ways that cyber criminals are using social networking sites to prey on unsuspecting users.
If you are a user of these sites, before you go to facebooks login, please read this article and my post; and anything else you can find on social networking. It would be best to not use these sites at all, but if that’s not possible, you should at least educate yourself on their hazards to you and then use them safely. Social networking is a serious problem that could cause you to be infected by a computer malware, robbed of money, or worse…personally attacked by a stalker or predator who has identified you from these sites. Please be careful out there!!!
Please comment on this subject; we all learn from each other when our views and opinions are shared.
